Type Locality and Naming

Southernmost Sichuan. The Fengshanying Fm was named by Zhang Zhaojin in 1942. The type section is in Hongchuanqiao over Hetao River, Huili County, Sichuan Province. Uppermost formation in Huili Gr.

Synonym: (凤山营组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Fengshanying Fm is composed of grey, blue-grey thin-bedded to medium-thick-bedded muddy, sandy dolomite and limestone, banded limestone, occasionally stromatolite-bearing limestone. In the base are minor calcareous clastic rock. The thickness varies from 1720 m to 3262 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base is in conformable contact with underlying Limahe Fm, but locally in disconformable contact.

Upper contact

The top is in conformable contact with the overlying Tianbaoshan Fm (not in current Lexicon), but locally in disconformable contact.

Regional extent

Southernmost Sichuan.
